Welcome to our “People & Planet” sustainability blog

Welcome to our “People & Planet” sustainability blog

Over the last few years, we’ve all heard a lot about sustainability. Knowing what to do and where to start can seem overwhelming with all the different conversations and points of view. But for us at Etude, sustainability comes down to one simple thing: Taking care of our people and planet is the right thing to do.

Since our founding in 1982, we’ve always put that truth at the center of everything we do in the vineyards, winery, and community. From long-term planning to the small decisions each of us makes every day, our focus on people and planet helps make our path clear.

Because sustainability is such an essential part of who we’ve been for over 40 years, we’d like to share with you some of what we’ve learned, what we’re still discovering, how we’re applying that knowledge, how it’s benefiting the place we call home, and of course, how sustainable practices are helping us make some really fantastic wine!

The way we think about sustainability actually comes from our name. An “etude” is a piece of music that helps musicians practice and perfect a particular technique. We chose the name Etude to remind us how important it is to stay curious and push ourselves every day, to learn and grow in our winemaking and as people.

Over the year, we’ll give you a peek behind the scenes into different aspects of sustainability at Etude, like water conservation, soil health, biodiversity, packaging, energy efficiency, supporting small and local suppliers, eco-friendly tourism, sustainable food & wine pairing, and how we’re giving back. We hope this information not only helps you feel great about making Etude part of your life, but that our experiences help you find your own way to a more sustainable lifestyle.

There is one really exciting thing we can’t wait to share – as of November 2024, Etude is now 100% powered by renewable electricity! And we’re making 90% of that right here on our property. More details about that later. But for now pour yourself a glass of Etude Pinot, and we’ll see you again in March.

Cheers!
